Book Review: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Rating: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I cannot begin to describe how much this book absolutely blew my mind! A book that is filled with so many powerful and poignant messages, yet is so simple and beautiful to read. There's no absurd plot lines to battle with nor are there any wacky characters to force yourself into liking; it is simply a celebration of ordinary life. Whilst Haig does deal with sensitive subjects such as depression, anxiety and overdose, what we take away from the book are the lessons learned from living with regret. Haig takes us on an uplifting journey from regret to acceptance - outlining the beauty of true self-acceptance. When one may feel like they have lost their place in the world, Haig reminds us of the endless possibilities that life can bring as well as of the power of choice. The Midnight Library is my first Matt Haig book, my first step into speculative fiction, and it definitely will not be my last...

About The Book:

Nora's life has only gone from bad to worse: she's lost her job, her best friend, her brother wants nothing to do with her and her cat is dead. Life has ultimately become the biggest chore, so she ends it all and finds herself transported to the Midnight Library. At the point between life and death is the Midnight Library and within this library the shelves go on forever. Each book provides a chance of a different life, a life that could have been, a chance to see how things would be if you'd made a different choice. For Nora Seed, this is exactly the decision that she is faced with. Able to dip in and sample lives where she made different choices, Nora must erase all those endless regrets and find the life she is most comfortable in. But, when placed in a multiverse of infinite choice, which one will Nora choose?
