Book Review: Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisey

Rating: 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

With the release of the paperback only a couple of weeks ago, there is no surprise that Monica Heisey's debut novel has been storming through the book world! Everyone has been loving Really Good, Actually from the moment it first hit the shelves and after reading it myself, I can see why! Not only is the narrative of this book so witty and laugh-out-loud hilarious, but the characters are so relatable you will feel like part of the group. Heisey's protagonist Maggie is just everything and more! Unveiling the messy chaos of being a newly single woman in your late-twenties, entering the world of dating again. It is like watching Bambi on ice; not knowing where to look first. My absolute favourite chapters of this novel: the ones made up entirely of Maggie's search history. Does "gua sha videos", "Taylor Swift breakup songs" or "quotes about rest and resting" look familiar to anyone else? For any fans of Bridget Jones out there, this is the book for you!

About The Book:

Maggie's marriage ended just 608 days after it had started, but she's fine! She's doing really good, actually! She may be alone for the first time in what seems like forever, can't afford her rent (who can nowadays?!) and her PhD course just seems to be going absolutely nowhere. But, one thing is certain, Maggie is determined to embrace her new status as a 'Surprisingly Young Divorcee'. Her plan of action: take up 'sadness hobbies', getting back out there and massively oversharing with her group of friends.

Really Good, Actually follows Maggie through the many highs and lows as she throws herself head first into the chaos of her first year of divorce. Utterly hilarious, painstakingly relatable and heaps of chaos - it is like every woman's own intrusive thoughts have gone rogue on the page...
